How to choose spacers and bushings for an MTB shock absorber?

Spacers and bushings allow your MTB shock absorber to rotate freely around its pivot points to ensure optimal operation. They are wear parts that should be replaced when there is play. Here is some guidance to help you choose them.

  • The bushing mounting diameter
  • The spacer mounting diameter
  • The axle mounting diameter

Types of spacers and bushings

The bushing is the fixed part A that is pressed into the base of the shock absorber. The mounting diameter may differ depending on the brand, so it is recommended to check which one corresponds to your model.

The spacers B are the two parts fitted on either side of the bushing to ensure free rotation of the shock absorber. These spacers must also suit the diameter of the axle E that allows the MTB suspension to be mounted.

To choose them, you will need to pay attention to the following values: the overall length C (once fitted), the internal diameter of the spacers D and the bore diameter E. Since the mounting diameter of the spacers in the bushing may differ depending on the brand, it is recommended to check beforehand which one corresponds to your model.
