How to remove your MTB headset?

The MTB headset is a wear part that must be replaced when the bearings develop play. Here is how to remove it from your MTB.

Steps

First, remove the MTB fork from your bike by following the guide: How to fit your MTB fork?

Probikeshop tip: this operation is quite delicate. Make sure the frame is properly secured and the cup remover is correctly in place before striking.
  1. Remove the fork cone using the extractor. A
  2. Remove the headset cups one by one by striking firmly with the cup remover, which has been previously positioned against them. B

Your headset is now removed. You can take the opportunity to clean your head tube and measure its internal dimension if needed, in order to select your next headset.
