Steps

For a thorough clean, it is necessary to remove the derailleur from the bike.

  1. First, roughly clean the derailleur.
  2. Remove the jockey wheels, taking care to note the correct orientation for reassembly.
  3. Clean the jockey wheels, cage and derailleur thoroughly. Probikeshop tip: take the opportunity to check the condition of the jockey wheels and replace them if necessary.
  4. Reassemble everything with grease.

Your derailleur is now perfectly clean; all that remains is to refit it to the bike, lubricate your drivetrain and then check that everything is functioning correctly. You may need to fine-tune the adjustment of your derailleur.
