How to service your MTB headset?

To maintain maximum smoothness, it is recommended to regularly service your MTB headset. Here is how to carry out this relatively simple operation on your MTB.

Steps

Reminder: to service the headset, it is not necessary to remove the cups — only the bearings. To access the bearings, first remove the fork from your bike by following the guide How to fit an MTB fork.

  1. Clean and degrease the cups and bearings of your headset. 
  2. Grease the parts generously to seal the assembly and prevent corrosion. 

  3. Reassemble your headset and fork.
