The world's second-largest bicycle manufacturer, with over two million units produced each year, MERIDA was created almost by chance in 1972 in the Yuanlin region of Taiwan, considered the Silicon Valley of the bicycle industry.
It all began in 1970. During a trip to the United States, Ike Tseng, a mechanical engineer by profession, was struck by a sign on the front of a bicycle store warning that the store would not repair bicycles made in Taiwan because of their poor quality. Stung to the core, confident in his skills and those of his compatriots, he founded MERIDA, whose three syllables (Me-Ri-Da) mean "beautiful, high quality and very pleasant to use" in Chinese.
Initially a subcontractor/manufacturer of frames for other brands, the company decided to move up a gear in 1988 by creating its own brand and setting up its own distribution network. With a presence in over 80 countries, the company offers a complete range of bikes for all riding practices (Road, Cyclocross, Cross-Country MTB, Enduro, Urban, Electric).
Recognized worldwide for its quality, innovation and technology, MERIDA designs all its bikes in Germany, more precisely in Stuttgart where its Research & Development center is located. It also relies on feedback from the greatest champions, including XC riders José Hermida and Gunn-Rita Dahle, the Lampre Merida UCI World Tour Team from 2013 to 2016 and Team Bahrain Merida since 2017.
Production takes place in Taiwan at the brand's factories, which boast over four decades of know-how. In particular, the company was the first to use robots to weld aluminum frames, and has extensive expertise in composite fibers to offer ultra-high-performance carbon bikes. This expertise enables us to offer all our customers a lifetime warranty on our frames.
Mastering the entire chain, from design to manufacturing, finishing and assembly, MERIDA bikes combine all the qualities expected of a bicycle - comfort, control, stability, strength, performance - whether you're a competitor looking for results, or a leisure cyclist occasionally out for a spin.
