How to fit road bike brake pads?

Whether your brake pads are cartridge-type or classic, fitting them is relatively straightforward. Here is how to do it.

Steps

Please note that brake pads have a fitting direction that is easily identified by the letter L for Left or R for Right indicated directly on them.

  1. Fit the new brake pads, making sure to respect the correct fitting direction.

  2. Gently apply the brake, then correctly position the brake pad so that it is properly aligned with the rim.

  3. Lightly tighten the fixing bolt.

  4. Now follow how to adjust road bike brakes.

With the brake pads now in place, it is important to check the tightening after a few braking applications.
