The concept of protection is being entirely rethought to enable sport enthusiasts to take on every challenge. What does "reinvented protection" mean? For the SMITH brand, it means surpassing safety standards, going beyond what already exists, to offer helmets that will protect you against four types of impact: low-speed impacts, high-speed impacts, rotational impacts and multi-impacts.

Koroyd

Koroyd is a new material that absorbs more energy on impact compared to international standards, while improving the flow of passing air.

This revolutionary material is composed of thousands of extruded copolymer tubes, thermally welded together, to create an unprecedented and perfectly homogeneous high-tech core. Each section of Koroyd is designed to precise specifications of hardness, size and thickness in order to provide the best impact resistance as well as an attractive aesthetic.

The precise and unique thermal welding process of Koroyd material gives rise to a structure with both effective and homogeneous absorption properties. Thus, upon impact, the core of this material crushes in a fully controlled manner, decelerating the energy of the impact and reducing the level of final trauma.

The open-cell construction of Koroyd material allows fresh air in while expelling warm air from the inside of the helmet. Using this material in helmet construction therefore offers the integration of more air intakes, without sacrificing protection or comfort.

The latest tests prove that Koroyd is capable of absorbing up to 48 times more energy than a conventional EPS helmet construction. Helmets are therefore more resistant, providing optimal protection during your rides, without additional weight and without compromising effective temperature regulation.

MIPS

The MIPS system (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) is an increasingly widespread safety technology found on both road and mountain bike helmets. MIPS helmets are characterised by the addition of an intermediate layer, between the head and the outer shell, whose movement is slightly independent of the latter. That is, when you fall at a certain angle, rotational forces are generated. It is at this point that the sliding layer between the outer shell and the head is activated, allowing the rotational force to be reduced and, consequently, the potential damage to your brain.

SMITH helmets are designed to absorb direct impacts very effectively and, when combined with MIPS technology, they also better absorb rotational forces by allowing the outer shell to rotate slightly relative to the liner.

Compatibility with goggles and glasses

At SMITH, even though protection always comes first, comfort should never be overlooked. So the brand designs its helmets, goggles and glasses to integrate perfectly with one another.

The brand develops its helmets to accommodate the curvature of goggle and glasses frames, eliminating any gap zones. The helmets also feature a significant integration factor known as "AirEvac". This ventilation system acts as a bridge allowing goggles, helmets and glasses to work as a single system, in order to rapidly and efficiently evacuate warm, moist air from inside the goggle via the helmet's temperature regulation system.

A clear field of vision and optimal overall thermal regulation are thus guaranteed whatever the weather conditions!
